🐢 The first synthetic plastic known as “celluloid” was developed in the mid-nineteenth century as a replacement for horn, tortoiseshell and ivory.

👨‍🔬 But plastic as we know it was finally patented by Belgian Chemist Leo Baekland in 1907. It was known as Bakelite.
